Slemmestad Geology Center – Trilobox
The Slemmestad Geology Center opened in the spring of 2018. The center houses exhibitions and serves as an educational space for children and young people who want to learn about the unique geology of Slemmestad. It consists of a museum and a fossil preparation workshop.

During my time working at the Geology Center, I prepared a large collection of trilobites from the local area. Around 50 different species of trilobites have now been prepared and are on display at the center. Preparing these specimens was a fascinating project, revealing the remarkable diversity of trilobites preserved in the rocks around Slemmestad.
Since its opening, the center has attracted many visitors. Schools and kindergartens take part in educational programs, while lectures and digital exhibitions provide additional opportunities to explore the geological history of the area.
Today, Slemmestad has become an important international destination for people interested in geology and paleontology. Visitors from all over the world come to experience the locality and learn more about its geological past.
Trilobox is also a hub for geological excursions, with both short and longer marked trails leading to interesting geological and fossil localities in the surrounding area.
The project was initiated by Slemmestad Library, Røyken Municipality, and the Natural History Museum. The Geology Center was funded by Sparebankstiftelsen.
For many years, Trilobox has been a unique place in Norway to see these remarkable trilobites and to learn about the fossils and geological history of Slemmestad.
